Day 26 7:35 am … little later but still too early

Huey woke up to some REM this morning. He also went for a walk in his new braces, stretched his legs and did some ballet en pointe. Take notes you uncoordinated bipeds, physically challenged and still pumpin out the moves~!~

Day 26 (reeeeaaaaalllly early)

Huey is doing well with the braces. Drinking and sleeping after the stress of his little procedure. Boy does he make a fuss when he’s awake though … don’t think he likes em much, lots of chirping and biting at them. Pretty P.O. if you ask me LOL.

Day 25
Sorry about the lack of posts, but I’ve been kinda just waiting to see how Huey does before posting too much. He is doing fine, and I put some braces on his feet. They are made from old Tim Horton’s gift cards, I knew they would come in handy some day ~!~

Day 25

Sorry about the lack of posts, but I’ve been kinda just waiting to see how Huey does before posting too much. He is doing fine, and I put some braces on his feet. They are made from old Tim Horton’s gift cards, I knew they would come in handy some day ~!~

Day 22

I had a video of Huey being born and I deleted it in … somehow. Sorry but I guess that little experience was meant just for me and my son, Riley … well my brother Justin too.

This poor little duck has had to go through so many obstacles and that was just to be hatched. He also was born with some defects. He beak is a little under developed, and his toes are curled into a fist. Now his beak may continue to grow (needs more research), however his feet may need some sort of brace or apparatus to assist them in staying straight until they grow normally. Will post some pictures soon.

Day 22

Some more good news and bad news … bad news is Duey stopped moving and chirping sometime during the night. When I woke up and pipped his egg, seeing as Huey was coming along well, to see if he was still alive. Unfortunately I believe him to be DIS (dead in shell) … I will let him be for a couple more hours to make sure.

The good news is Huey was born at 1:35pm and 28 seconds, naturally, strong and healthy. Video will come soon.

Day 21

Huey pipped externally today at 12:30pm … external pipping means that he broke through his outer shell. Duey is still at the internal pipping stage … which means he has broken into his air cell … but he knows to save the best for last. They are both chirping and moving, and Huey responds with outside noise.

Day 21

Woke up for some reason at 6:00 this morning, and heard Huey Chirping inside the egg. He must not be happy that it is getting kind of tight in there. Should have some baby ducks sometime in the next 48 hours.

Day 20

Nothing much happening today either, except some moving and shaking. They get me all excited about it … then make me wait … they both must be female.

Day 18

Nothing much happening besides some kicking and moving. I haven’t heard any clicks of beaks on the shells just yet, I think it’s getting pretty darn close though. If you pray .. now would be the time .. do it .. jus’ do it … do it.

Day 16

I did some more research today and found that the eggs might have been further along than I thought. This website - http://www.eggincubator.biz/Embryonic-Development-Process.html - . If you compare the last picture that was taken of the eggs to the picture of the 20-21 day of incubation, they look pretty close. I was candling the eggs from the smaller end away from the air cell, which is why you can’t see them in the images. Today I candled the eggs and found that they look very similar to day 24-25. The chick is in the narrower end of the egg so it can cut around the shell at the opposite end. I did this rather quickly and put them back in the same orientation so they wouldn’t re-adjust their positioning in the egg.  After I placed them back, Huey kicked or something and shook his egg. It was pretty cool to see. He was pretty active and it wasn’t long before I noticed Duey shaking as well. Time to lower the temperature a bit and raise the humidity by 25% ish (fingers crossed). Wish them luck.
